My Coldplay Story: Well, the first time I heard Coldplay was riding in my mom’s van to a piano lesson when I was eight years old during the first week of December. “Clocks” came on, and I was immediately interested in the piano melody. It was so catchy and fun and very different from what I had grown up listening to (Backstreet Boys, *NYSNC, etc.)

I went to my piano lesson and asked my teacher if she could teach “Clocks” to me. I went back the next lesson, and she had bought me the A Rush of Blood to the Head piano book. I was so excited. I learned “The Scientist” and “Clocks” that first week.

A few weeks later, I got A Rush of Blood to the Head on CD for Christmas. I listened to that CD like crazy. I played it so much that it was actually worn down and was forced to buy a new one!

Since then, I have followed Coldplay loyally, collecting every single, EP, and album they released. I even discovered the internet (when I was about 14) and downloaded unreleased songs! Hahaha. I have met some of my best friends thanks to Coldplay.

My parents had an unexpected split towards the very end of 2006. I was devastated. My dad’s schizophrenia had become out of hand, and he just told my mom one day that he didn’t love her anymore. He told us on New Years Eve that he was moving out. My mom was extremely depressed for a few weeks after. I remember every night I went to bed during those weeks, I would listen to Coldplay. They seemed to make everything alright. I wanted comfort in knowing I wasn’t alone, and Coldplay gave me that. “What If” was a huge part for me to get over the split. I have maybe seen my dad ten times since. He does not support my activities nor does he pay child support.

In 2009, I got tickets to Coldplay’s Viva la Vida concert in St. Louis, MO with my best friend. We made signs, bought shirts, and drilled the concert line-up into our minds. We even put the Viva logo on our right hands. We could only afford seats in the last row of the covered section; my mom has a really tough time supporting two children. I was content though. So, my friends and I got to the show three hours prior to the scheduled time. We got to talk with some ushers, and they told us that Coldplay would at one point be walking right past us! And they were right! I was waving my sign that said “Viva la Coldplay” and Chris stopped, nodded his head, and said, “High five!” It was amazing. I started crying a lot after that. The whole concert was beautiful; one of the best days of my life.

Today, I still follow Coldplay in whatever direction they my go. They could release a country album, and I’d still be loyal as ever. Their music is phenomenal and like no other band. The depth they achieve with the beautiful vocal harmonies, string arrangements, guitar/bass riffs, piano melodies is amazing. I love them with all my heart, and I hope someday I can tell them how much I love their music.

I purchased 4 VIP tickets, row 12, seats 1-4 for August 11th in St. Paul, MN. I am so excited to see them again, up close and personal! I am very happy that I have this opportunity.

My Pledge: Spread the love for Coldplay :)
